If you're facing a tough time, you're not alone.
CCHASM connects individuals and families in Central Virginia with food, emergency utility assistance, and referrals to trusted local resources. We serve residents of Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Prince George experiencing financial hardship, facing unexpected emergencies, and seniors, caregivers, and people navigating temporary crisis.
Proof of income or citizenship status is not required to request food assistance. Some programs, like utility support, may require additional documentation.
CCHASM’s Food Assistance Program is designed to support individuals and families who are experiencing an emergency that limits their ability to purchase essential items like groceries.
Working with 15 regional pantry partners, we provide nonperishable meal bags and household staples to help stretch and supplement existing resources such as WIC and TANF. This interim support is especially critical while individuals wait for applications for other assistance programs to be processed.
In addition to year-round help, we offer seasonal support through initiatives like our annual Thanksgiving Program and connect clients with nearby food pantries based on their location to ensure continued access to nourishment and stability.
CCHASM’s Utility Assistance Program helps prevent service disconnections for families facing temporary financial hardship.
When a household is at risk of losing access to electricity, water, or heat, we work with local service providers to offer emergency support, as funding allows. Our team conducts a thorough screening process to determine eligibility and focuses on addressing immediate, acute needs rather than ongoing financial challenges.
Assistance is provided directly to the utility vendor, and documentation of the emergency and household income may be required. When funds are not available, we may offer additional food support to help reduce financial strain and free up resources for essential bills.
Through our partnership with DoorDash’s Project DASH, CCHASM provides home delivery of groceries to individuals who are unable to visit a pantry in person. We work closely with local pantry partners to coordinate timely, contactless delivery of nonperishable meal bags.
This service is available to qualified residents, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those without reliable transportation within a 15-mile radius of our regional hub locations.
Eligible households may receive one delivery per month, based on availability across Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Prince George.
